Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has firmly denied rumors of his retirement, clarifying that his decision to sit out the Sydney Test was solely due to his recent poor form with the bat. In an interview with Star Sports on Day 2 of the Sydney Test, Rohit explained that stepping aside was a difficult but sensible decision, emphasizing that it has no bearing on his future in cricket.
Rohit Sharma States- Not a Retirement Decision
“Let me be clear, this is not a retirement decision,” Rohit stated. “I’m taking a break because my batting hasn’t been up to the mark. There’s no guarantee it won’t improve in two or five months. Cricket changes every day, and I firmly believe my form will return.”
Criticism from Outside Doesn’t Define Me
The Indian skipper took a strong stance against critics who speculate about his career decisions. “Someone sitting with a mic, pen, or laptop cannot decide my future,” he remarked. “I’ve played this game for years, and no one from outside can dictate when I should step aside.” Adding humor to his response, Rohit said, “Sensible aadmi hoon, do bachhon ka baap hoon, mere paas dimaag hai!” (I’m a sensible man, a father of two, and I have a brain.)
Selectors’ Input and Personal Belief
Reports suggest selectors have informed Rohit that he may not be considered beyond the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, Rohit made it clear that retirement remains a personal decision. He concluded the interview with a confident declaration: “Main kahin ja nahi raha. Idhar hi hun.” (I’m not going anywhere; I’m here.)
Rohit’s statement has reassured fans that he is determined to return stronger and continue leading the Indian cricket team.
