Umran Malik: With a dramatic two-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Tuesday in Mumbai, Team India got off to a strong start in the new year. Hardik Pandya was in charge of the team. In the match, Shivam Mavi, who was playing for the first time for India, stood out as the player to watch, taking four wickets and allowing only 22 runs in his four overs.

Mavi’s performance allowed India to put Sri Lanka on the back foot from the outset of the 163-run chase, as he took a wicket in each of his first two overs. Not only that, but Mavi was as good in his comeback period, giving India a key breakthrough in the shape of Wanindu Hasaranga, who was working on a rescue act for the guests with Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka. Maheesh Theekshana was then removed by Mavi in his last over.
