Uncertainty looms over World T20 in India after IPL cancellation

After the cancellation of Indian Premier League citing rising COVID cases in team camps.

Today Delhi Capitals leg-spinner Amit Mishra and Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has tested positive for coronavirus. Yesterday KKR’s Varun Chakraborty and Sandeep Warrior had tested positive for the deadly virus.

The mega T20 World Cup is all set to be held in October and November in India.

The tournament is still five months away but the speculations on shifting the tournament out of India is at high.

An ICC recce team was suppose to visit India during IPL and give away the green signal for the mega international tournament, but after the cancellation of IPL, it might be possible that the tournament will be shifted to either UAE or Sri Lanka.

“It would be the UAE. We’re hoping again that it would be done by the BCCI. So, we’ll take the tournament there, but it’ll still be done by the BCCI,” Dhiraj Malhotra, General Manager (Game Development), told BBC’s Stumped podcast last week.

The situation in India is critical, most of the countries have already banned travel from India. The nation is witnessing its all-time spike in COVID cases with a daily fresh case range between 3.6 lakhs to 4 lakhs. Apart from that, India is also reporting 3,500 deaths a day.
