Urvil Patel: In Chennai Super Kings’ high-pressure clash against Lucknow Super Giants two days ago in the Indian Premier League (IPL), dashing batsman Urvil Patel delivered a batting masterclass that stunned players, commentators and fans alike.

The Baroda batter smashed a breath-taking 65 runs off just 23 deliveries, helping CSK chase down the massive total with five wickets in hand. After reaching his half-century, the Baroda boy’s “This Is for You, Papa” celebrations delighted cricket fans.

Dashing Strokeplay Of Urvil Patel

Urvil reached his half-century in only 13 balls, equalling the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. At one stage, Chepauk looked less like a cricket stadium for Urvil and more like a six-hitting exhibition.

The carnage truly began when Urvil attacked Avesh Khan in a game-changing over that yielded 25 runs. Moments later, Digvesh Rathi suffered a similar fate as the CSK batter unleashed an unbelievable sequence of sixes. During his inning, Urvil became the first batter in IPL history to smash six sixes within his first eight balls faced in an innings.

After reaching the milestone, Urvil pulled out a note from his pocket that read, “This is for you, Papa.” The celebration instantly went viral across social media.

Journey Of The Baroda Boy-Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Over the years, Baroda has produced several notable cricketers but Urvil Patel’s emergence carries a distinctly modern T20 flavour. Aggressive, fearless, adaptable and naturally attacking, Urvil represents the new generation of Indian batters who don’t believe in taking time to settle.

Urvil smashed one of the fastest hundreds in domestic T20 history, reaching the three-figure mark in breath-taking fashion. He scored one of the fastest centuries in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history and soon established himself as one of the highest strike-rate batters in the tournament.

Urvil emerged as Baroda’s most destructive middle-order batter in T20 cricket and gained recognition for consistent six-hitting ability. Urvil became one of the standout uncapped Indian talents ahead of the IPL season.

For Chennai Super Kings, the selection of Urvil is an excellent choice as he can operate as an aggressive opener, a floating middle-order finisher, a wicketkeeper-batter option and a matchup-based impact substitute.
