Uttar Pradesh: On Sunday, in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, police officers allegedly assaulted Ranji cricket players. The incident unfolded outside the Bhamashah Park stadium, where two constables, Varun Sharma and Jitendra, were seated in a car. As two Ranji players were returning to their rooms after having a meal, a dispute arose regarding the parking of the vehicle, leading to a confrontation.

UP Police beats cricketers

During the altercation, the policemen allegedly resorted to physical violence against the players. The Ranji players, who had been peacefully going about their business, became victims of the assault. According to reports, the players were allegedly summoned by the police and subjected to physical assault in a public space. The incident took place on the road, witnessed by bystanders before the players were taken to the police station.

Upon receiving information about the incident, fellow players arrived at the police station and voiced their discontent. The Circle Officer (CO) of Civil Line has acknowledged the incident and stated that appropriate measures will be taken after a thorough investigation.

What did the players say about incident?

One of the player named Prashant Chaudhary is an active cricketer in Ranji cricket, while Vineet Panwar is a member of the Indian-19 cricket team. Interestingly, both these players reside in rental accommodations near Victoria Park and regularly practice cricket at Bhamashah Park. Vineet claims that on a Sunday night when he attempted to park his scooter at Bhamashah Park, he requested a group of individuals near the entrance to move their vehicle. However, a dispute broke out between Vineet and these individuals after both players mentioned their affiliation with the SOG team.

Prashant Chowdhary has made an allegation that the police officers involved in the incident were drunk and physically assaulted him. Presently, there are ongoing proceedings in response to this incident.
