Vernon Philander to leave Pakistan bio-bubble, fly back South Africa due to changing COIVID-19 situation

Pakistan bowling consulant and former South Africa pacer Vernon Philander who is currently in Bangladesh with the Babar Azam-led side will will leave the squad bubble and fly back to his home country as early as Monday due to the worsening flight operations in view of the new Covid variant in his country.

Former pacer was scheduled to leave for South Africa at the conclusion of the Test series against Bangladesh, but PCB released a statement on Day 3 of the first Test that he had to change his plans citing COVID-19 situation at home.

The new Covid-19 variant, called Omicron has already disrupted the cricket schedule in Zimbabwe and South Africa, and could impact it further in the coming days.

South Africa is currently reporting near to 2000 new cases a day, but there are concerns this will rise exponentially and stricter regulations and in fact lockdown are due to be introduced soon.
