Vinesh Phogat compares WFI chief to ‘Ravana’ as wrestlers protest against sexual harassment

Wrestlers protest

Wrestlers protest: Top wrestlers have responded to claims made by Wrestling Federation of India chief and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh that they were attempting to seize control of the WFI, with Vinesh Phogat comparing his ego to that of ‘Ravana’ (from the epic Ramayana). On Sunday, the ongoing demonstrations by wrestlers demanding that the Centre-appointed panel’s conclusions into the sexual harassment claims against Singh be made public came to an end.

Delhi Police provided security to the female wrestlers

Following a directive from the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police on Sunday provided security to the female wrestlers, including a minor who reported Singh for sexual harassment. The complainants have been asked to record their statements as soon as possible so that further investigation into the matter can be conducted. Singh had earlier on Sunday claimed that Congressman Deepender Hooda and wrestler Bajrang Punia had planned an attack on him. Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, was praised for not joining the protest by Singh, who claimed that the Samajwadi Party leader was “standing with the truth.” Singh was arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting female wrestlers. He also claimed that the opposition parties were “tutoring” the athletes.

He has a larger ego than Ravana- Vinesh Phogat

Punia advised the media not to give Singh a platform to speak till he has been exonerated by the courts in response to the wrestlers’ protest over Singh’s charges at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. “Brij Bhushan is receiving more media support than the players do. His criminal history is visible. Does anyone in this room, including athletes from other sports, have a criminal history? Punia told reporters. Vinesh Phogat, a two-time World Championship medalist, disputed Singh’s assertion that they are active in politics. She said, ‘We don’t participate in politics. The reason there are so many people seated here in support of us is because we speak from the heart and it resonates.’ ‘I question how you could give such a criminal a stage. Consider this, The man is still speaking with a smile on his face. He has a larger ego than Ravana,’ Phogat said.
