Viral IPL Video: With five Indian Premier League titles under his belt, Rohit Sharma is considered the most successful captain in the history of the tournament. He took over as captain of the Mumbai-based franchise midway through the 2013 season and has since turned their fortunes around. Rohit was signed for $2 million in 2011 and has been a pivotal player for the Mumbai Indians ever since. Prior to joining MI, Rohit played for the Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons of the IPL, and led them to the title in 2009.

That year, the IPL was held in South Africa, and Rohit was named the Emerging Player of the Year after scoring 362 runs in 16 innings and taking 11 wickets. He played a crucial role in Adam Gilchrist's side's triumph.
During the 2009 IPL, Rohit, who had started his cricketing journey as a bowler, also recorded a hat-trick against the Mumbai Indians in Match Number 32 played in Centurion on May 6. He finished his spell of two overs with figures of 4 for 6, leaving a lasting impression on the tournament.
During the match, Rohit bowled Abhishek Nayar on the penultimate ball of the 16th over and then dismissed Harbhajan Singh on the very next ball. This was followed by his captain, Adam Gilchrist, asking him to bowl the 18th over of the innings as well, during which he dismissed South African batsman Jean-Paul Duminy to complete his hat-trick. Rohit ended the match with figures of 4 for 6 in 2 overs and also finished as the highest run-scorer for his side, making 38 off 36 balls.

Rohit was part of the Deccan Chargers for three years before being signed by the Mumbai Indians in the 2011 auction. Under his leadership, Mumbai Indians have won five IPL titles, in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
