Manvinder Bisla: The unsung hero

On the final day, it was the unheard Manvinder Bisla who stole the show among a pack of former Indian cricketers. Despite having a relatively lower strike rate of 106 in T20 cricket prior to the match, Bisla played a sensational inning to lead Kolkata to victory over the formidable yellow army, who had set a monumental target.

Playing in front of a home crowd, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team set a formidable target of 190 runs after batting first. The opening pair of Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay provided a solid foundation for the team with an impressive 87-run partnership. While Hussey scored a composed half-century off 43 deliveries, Vijay narrowly missed his own fifty, scoring 42 runs off 32 balls. The famous Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina, then produced superb innings with the bat, scoring a quickfire 73 runs off just 38 deliveries. Dhoni, the captain, remained unbeaten with 14 runs off just 9 balls, hitting two boundaries towards the end of the innings.

The Knights faced an early setback when their captain Gautam Gambhir was dismissed in the first over while chasing. However, Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis formed a crucial partnership of 136 runs, with Bisla smashing 89 runs off just 48 balls, which included eight boundaries and five sixes. Although the middle-order comprising Laxmi Ratan Sukla and Yusuf Pathan did not make any significant contributions, Kallis played a vital role in steering the team to victory. He scored 69 runs in 49 balls to help the Knights achieve their target.
