Viral IPL Video: In the first match of the 2010 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Mumbai Indians (MI) faced off against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, MI skipper Sachin Tendulkar elected to bat on what was expected to be a batting-friendly pitch. However, Yusuf Pathan showed how it was truly a batting pitch by scoring 100 off 37 balls.

Yusuf Pathan hits sensational century

The MI batting lineup managed to mount a formidable total of 212 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. The duo put on 110 runs for the 4th wicket in just over 10 overs, with Rayudu scoring 55 runs off 33 balls, and Tiwary contributing 53 runs off 33 balls. The only concern for the MI was an injury to Harbhajan Singh, who was unable to bowl in the match.

In response, the RR had a disastrous start, with Swapnil Asnodkar being run out without facing a single ball. Naman Ojha, Graeme Smith, and Abhishel Jhunjhunwala also departed early, leaving the visitors reeling at 66 for 4 in the 10th over. With the RR needing 147 runs from 65 balls, the match looked to be well out of their reach.

However, the RR’s Yousuf Pathan had other ideas. Pathan, known for his aggressive style of play, decided to take on the MI bowlers and counter-attack. He partnered with Paras Dogra and added 107 runs for the 5th wicket in less than 8 overs, slamming nine 4s and eight 6s during this time at a staggering strike rate of 270.27. Pathan’s innings, which was laced with 9 fours and 8 sixes, is still remembered as one of the best in IPL history and won worldwide applause.

Pathan’s heroics seriously rattled the MI and brought the RR back into contention. However, Pathan was eventually run out in the 18th over by R Satish, and the RR still needed 40 runs to reach their target. Despite Dogra’s efforts to keep the RR in the hunt, his dismissal in the final over prevented the team from pulling off what could have been a miraculous win in IPL history.

In the end, the MI won the match by a narrow margin of 4 runs, levelling the head-to-head record against the RR to 2-2. Pathan’s outstanding innings made the match an unforgettable spectacle and reinforced the fact that cricket is a game of uncertainty.
