Virat Kohli: “T20 World Cup 2022 to be his last?” Former captain’s childhood coach speaks on controversial topic

Virat Kohli T20 World Cup 2022 to be his last Former captain's childhood coach speaks on controversial take

Virat Kohli: Before the Asia Cup 2022, there were questions over Virat Kohli’s position in the Indian T20I team since the previous skipper was finding it difficult to score huge runs while his supporters were so accustomed to watching him score runs.

In all forms, Kohli spent little over three years without recording a century, but the Asia Cup in the UAE altered everyone’s perception of his performance. In India’s last game of the competition, Kohli played a superb innings against Afghanistan to break his century drought.

The cricketing world had plenty to say about Kohli’s dismal performance, and although legends from other nations urged him to turn things around, former Indian and Pakistani players had their doubts about Kohli’s status in the Indian side.

Kohli’s childhood coach gave another prediction

Shoaib Akhtar predicted the T20 World Cup 2022 will be Kohli’s last and that he would retire from the format to extend his career, while Kapil Dev said that Kohli would be left off the team. Rajkumar Sharma, Kohli’s childhood coach, however, provided some clarity on his prospects for playing T20 international cricket.

“I want to clarify that it won’t be the last T20 World Cup for Virat Kohli. He will serve Team India for a long time. With his form, fitness, and hunger to score runs and win matches, I hope he will also be seen in the next T20 World Cup,” Rajkumar Sharma said.

Kohli would need to play a significant role if India is to win the T20 World Cup in 2022, he added.

Indian supporters will be hoping that Kohli has another successful tour to Australia since they know how much he enjoys scoring there and that he can help India end their 15-year T20 world title drought. Kohli is the only foreign batter among the top five run scorers in the shortest format down Under.
