Was Gautam Gambhir Really Behind Shubman Gill T20 World Cup 2026 Snub? Ex-Selector Drops Bombshell

There is a lot of debate about Shubman Gill not being picked for India's T20 World Cup 2026 team. A former cricketer said that head coach Gautam Gambhir affected the choice.

After Shubman Gill was left out of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 team, former Indian opener and current head coach Gautam Gambhir has been in the news a lot. The 26-year-old batter, who had been vice-captain of India’s T20 team, was surprisingly not chosen for the final 15-member group, which led to a lot of discussion among fans and cricket experts.

PTI quoted a former BCCI selector saying that “he has more footprints of the head coach.”

About the choice to drop Shubman Gill. Gambhir’s influence should be seen as a major reason for the selection change. The selector pointed to the quick changes in Gill’s T20 standing, like being brought back and made vice-captain and then being dropped right before the World Cup, as an example of inconsistent planning.

Before the squad release, Shubman Gill recent T20 form had been getting a lot of attention

Because Shubman Gill hadn’t scored 50 runs in his last 15 T20Is. Instead, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan were picked to play, and Axar Patel was made vice-captain of the team led by Suryakumar Yadav. The argument became more heated when famous cricketers and experts gave their opinions.

Some people backed the selectors’ decision, saying that there was a need for tactical balance and that recent results had been poor. Others, though, were upset about the lack of communication regarding Gill’s omission. No matter the reasons, saying that Gambhir’s way affected the choices made has added even more controversy to an already controversial move before one of cricket’s biggest tournaments.
