A shocking fraud in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme has surfaced in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, where influential families, including cricketer Mohammed Shami's sister, Shabina, have been listed as laborers on official documents. Reports suggest that local village heads and officials have fraudulently registered well-to-do individuals, including MBBS students, engineers, advocates, contractors, and shopkeepers, as MNREGA workers, siphoning off government funds meant for the needy.

Shami's Sister on MNREGA List?

In a startling revelation, Shabina, the sister of Team India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami, has been recorded as a manual laborer under MNREGA. Additionally, her husband and several other relatives have also been falsely enlisted in the scheme, receiving wages meant for daily wage workers. The fraud doesn't stop here—sources claim that hundreds of well-off individuals have been included in the list, diverting public funds into personal bank accounts.

Bribes & Threats to Suppress the News

When this scandal was brought to light, the village head's son allegedly tried to suppress the news, first by showcasing his political connections and later by offering a bribe to prevent publication. However, the exposure of this massive irregularity has now raised serious questions about governance and accountability in implementing India’s largest rural employment scheme.

How MNREGA Scam Works

According to reports, powerful village officials manipulate MNREGA data, enlisting ineligible individuals while genuine laborers struggle for work and wages. The funds are directly credited to fake beneficiaries, allowing the corrupt system to loot taxpayer money while the poor remain jobless.

Government’s Response & Public Outrage

The fraudulent registrations have triggered massive outrage, with demands for strict action against those involved. Authorities are being urged to conduct an independent probe, blacklist corrupt officials, and ensure that MNREGA benefits reach the rightful recipients.

With such scams repeatedly surfacing across India, the question remains—how deep does the corruption run, and will the real culprits ever be held accountable?
