Will Cricketing Spotlight Turn Golden For India? Ind vs Pak Battle for Asian Games 2026 Title Underway, Check Why India Are Favourites

The Asian Games 2026 cricket focus is squarely on India and Pakistan as the two arch-rivals clash in the men's gold-medal game in Nissin, Japan, on Saturday, October 3. The race for the title has seen both sides taking different roads to reach the final. India go into the game as the reigning Asian Games champions and have been pushed as tournament favorites by some of the match previews due to their recent performances against Pakistan and a strong line-up. Pakistan, meanwhile, come into the game on the back of a 6-wicket win over Bangladesh to reach the final. India arrives after a dominant semi-final India reaches final after a 124-run win over Sri Lanka. In the second semi-final, India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs to reach the final. Put in to bat, India set a target of 169/7 with youngster batter Ishan Kishan hitting 80 not out off 46 balls. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 38 off 21 balls. Bowling, then put the lid on the game, with Bumrah and Patel taking two apiece in the first over, before Bishnoi, Sundar, and Abhishek Sharma all chipped in as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 45. The result put India in a good position going into the final, particularly with their bowling attack demonstrating it can still be effective on a tough wicket. Pakistan fights through a rain-shortened semi-final. Pakistan progressed to the final with a six-wicket win against Bangladesh, which was reduced to 13 overs a side owing to rain. Bangladesh scored 111/7 in 20 overs before the chase was finished by Pakistan in 11.3 overs. Abdul Samad was the key with his fiery 30 off 15 balls, while Hasan Nawaz was also unbeaten on 27 off 22 balls. The spin attack has also proved to be pivotal for Pakistan on their road to the final. Three wickets from Sufyan Moqim against Bangladesh is also a reminder of how much the rest of the Pakistani spinners have contributed throughout the tournament. Why India are being described as the favorites? The recent head-to-head tally between the two sides is a significant factor working in India's favor as well. India has won 14 of the 17 T20I meetings against Pakistan, and that too in the last six meetings. India, meanwhile, has more experience in the ranks, with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Jasprit Bumrah all within the squad. The team will also defend the men's Asian Games cricket gold medal they won at the last edition. Pakistan are also hoping to claim their first men's Asian Games gold. But former performances are not the end-all. Pakistan's river of spinners and the conditions of Nisshin may still spell trouble for the Indian runs. Spin and the powerplay can help decide the end. Korogi Sports Park's pitch has provided turn and uneven bounce during the tournament, which could make for a fascinating contest between India's batsmen and Pakistan's bowlers. Sanjay Manjrekar, who played for India in the past, has also pointed out the role of the spin factor in this game, with two teams having tasted the pitch in their semi-finals. The challenge for Bumrah will be to strike early on against Sahibzada Farhan, the Pakistan captain, who has demonstrated that he can target India's most dangerous pacer. A gold medal awaits in Nisshin The grand final between India and Pakistan will take place on October 3rd at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. The start time of the match is 10 am IST. India captain Shreyas Iyer has called for batting first after winning the toss. India's recent form, defending champions tag and huge semi-final performance has made them among the favorites for the gold medal. Pakistan, on the other hand, has made it to the final with a formidable spin attack and will get a chance to take on India's recent dominance. Now that the gold medal has become a real possibility, it will all boil down to how the two teams adjust to the conditions and how they deal with the nerves of an India-Pakistan clash.
