WPL 2023: fiery new mascot ‘Shakti’ unveiled ahead of star-studded inaugural season, new era of women’s cricket in India begins, VIDEO

WPL 2023: Shakti, a tigress, is the new mascot of the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL), which was announced by BCCI secretary Jay on Thursday. A dance routine to well-known Bollywood songs will be performed by Bollywood actress Kiara Advani at the opening ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on March 4th.

The league will take place over the course of 23 days at the two Mumbai stadiums of DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium. Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians will square off in the first game of the year. The Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriors are the five teams that will participate in the league.

WIPL set to revolutionize women’s cricket in India

There will be 22 total matches in the league, including 20 league games, one eliminator, and one championship game. The first season will include four doubleheader games. There will be 57 Indian players and 30 foreign players in the league. Smriti Mandhana, the top-order batsman for India and vice captain, was the most expensive player in the WIPL auction and was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.40 crore. 448 players participated in the auction, and 87 players, including 30 foreign players, were purchased. In the auction, the five teams collectively spent Rs 59 crore 50 lakh. 20 players in total, including 10 players from abroad and 10 players from India, became crorepati. The league’s championship game is scheduled for March 26 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
