WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians to face Gujarat Giants in opener, check out complete schedule

WPL 2023: The Women’s Premier League (WPL) schedule was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, February 14. Between March 4 and 26, there will be five teams competing in the competition. The auction for the WPL was held on February 13 in Mumbai.

As per the fixture shared by the BCCI, a total of 20 games will be played during the league stage, which will be followed by an elimination round and final on March 26. The championship matches will be played at the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium. Both the venues will host 11 matches each, which will begin from 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM IST.

“In its first season, the WPL will stage a total of 20 league matches and two play-off games that will be played in a duration of 23 days,” the BCCI said in a statement. 

“The WPL will have its first double header on March 5, where Royal Challengers Bangalore will square off against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium. And in the evening game, UP Warriorz face Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium,” the statement added. 

WPL 2023 Auction

On February 13th, Mumbai hosted the auction for the major event’s first iteration. Smriti Mandhana rose to the top spot as the most expensive player when the Challengers acquired her for INR 3.40 crore.

The most expensive players among foreigners were English stars Nat Sciver Brunt and Ashleigh Gardner, with their values reaching INR 3.20 crore. Richa Ghosh, Alyssa Healy, Ash Gardner, and Amelia Kerr, along with a number of other prominent players, including Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, all found teams.

In the first edition of WPL, five teams — Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz.
