WPL Auction: Virat Kohli’s parallel #18? RCB rakes in star cricketer Smriti Mandhana for whooping Rs. 3.4 crores

WPL Auction: The action for WPL has kicked off. The start has been momentous as the star player Smriti Mandhana has been roped in by RCB. At the start of the auction for the first Women’s Premier League, a fierce bidding competition erupted between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore for player Smriti Mandhana. Mumbai Indians initially placed a bid of 2.3 crore rupees, which was topped by RCB with a bid of 2.6 crore rupees.

Smriti Mandhana roped in by RCB for Rs. 3.4 cr

The bidding continued to escalate, ultimately surpassing the 3 crore rupee mark. In the end, Smriti Mandhana was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 3.4 crore rupees. The ace Indian batter is known for her remarkable batting and continues to be a leading member of the Indian cricket team. Coincidentally, she wears ‘Number 18’ Jersey and Virat Kohli, former skipper of RCB Men’s team, also dons the same number jersey.

The auction for the WPL began on Monday. The auction features a total of 409 players, including some of the biggest names in women’s cricket from around the world. The WPL is poised to revolutionize the landscape of women’s cricket, with India’s top players like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues up for bid. With a maximum of 90 slots available among the five teams, 30 of these will be designated for overseas players.

What did BCCI president Roger Binny say on WPL?

Earlier, Roger Binny said, “It is a landmark moment today. Bright young talents will be rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest superstars in world cricket. We at the BCCI believe that the WPL is going to change the landscape of the game forever. Interest that women’s cricket has garnered is overwhelming. Hope the players are going to go under the hammer are as excited as us. There will be domestic players as well who will be hoping to make a mark for their franchise and eventually for their countries as well. We have seen unheard talents becoming household names in the men’s league. Hopefully that is what happens in the WPL as well.”
