’40 terrorists’ shot dead in Manipur in clash with commandos, says CM Biren Singh

Manipur violence: In a fresh set of ethnic clashes, commandos of Manipur Police are engaged with insurgents for about eight hours today in several areas of the state. According to media reports, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has confirmed that the “40 terrorists” have been shot dead, reportedly. A few have also been arrested, as per the chief minister.

’40 terrorists’ killed in Manipur Violence

The situation in Manipur continues to worsen as ethnic clashes have erupted in the northeastern state with commandos fighting with insurgents for over 40 hours. As per CM N Biren Singh, “40 terrorists” have been shot dead in the clash. 

“The terrorists have been using M-16 and AK-47 assault rifles and sniper guns against civilians. They came to many villages to burn down homes. We have started taking very strong action against them with the help of the army and other security forces. We have got reports some 40 terrorists have been shot dead,” he told reporters today.

The chief minister further added that the terrorists have been shooting at unarmed civilians in what can be termed as disrupting the integrity of the state. 

Fresh clashes

The chief minister claimed that these clashes are not between ethnic communities but between the Kuki militants and security forces. 

He urged the public not to hinder the movement of security personnel while urging them to “have faith in the government and security forces”. “We have experiences hardship for so long and we will never allow the state to disintegrate, he added. 

The violence comes amid tension between Kuki community and Meitei Conflict. The large scale ethnic violence took place in the first week of May with the Meitei community demanding for including in the ST list.
