AAP comes out in support of wrestlers

The AAP has extended support to the wrestlers who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar against federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Brij Bhushan Singh should be in jail as he slammed the lack of action in the case.

"By now, he [Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh] should have been in jail. Such serious allegations have been levelled against him, but even an FIR has not been registered in this case," Saurabh Bhardwaj said, condemning the predatory behavior towards them.

"We are not even able to provide them [wrestlers] with a safe place to play, and then there are such predators who set their eyes on their bodies. What could be more shameful than this," he added.

Wrestlers’ Protest at Jantar Mantar

Many top wrestlers including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik among others began protesting at Jantar Mantar again after they filed a fresh complaint against the WFI chief and other trainers.

"We will not believe anyone blindly. Last time we were misled. We hope this time there is no politics in this case," says Vinesh Phogat, the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games.

"This time, all parties are welcome to join our protest whether it is BJP, Congress, AAP, or any other party. We are not affiliated with any party," Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia said.

The wrestlers said that they ended their protest in January over false assurance. Phogat, who spent the night at the footpath said, “we will sit here day and night. Till the time we don’t get justice. We will sit here."
