Advocate who opened fire at Saket court was suspended for fraud and threats

New Delhi

New Delhi: Following accusations of fraud and threatening another woman, Prem Lata, the Saket court shooter, Kameshwar Kumar Singh, who opened fire at a woman in Delhi’s Saket district court complex on Friday, was prohibited from practising law starting in 2022, according to her attorney. Rajesh Tiwari, Lata’s attorney, asserted that the woman, who is also an advocate, had filed a case against Singh in 2016 at the Mehrauli police station under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing transfer of property).

Singh’s licence to work as an advocate has been suspended for two years

After the woman complained to the Delhi Bar Council, Singh was suspended from the practise of law for two years, from September 12, 2022, to September 11, 2024. Singh’s licence to work as an advocate has been suspended for two years, according to a notice Singh received from the Bar Council in December of last year, after it “found him guilty of gross professional misconduct and other misconduct.” If an advocate is found guilty of professional or other wrongdoing, a “disciplinary committee” of the council may “suspend” him from practise or even “remove his name” from the state roster of advocates, according to PTI. This is a result of the complaint, 180/2017, between Ms. Prem Lata and Mr. Kameshwar Kumar Singh, both solicitors, said Bar Council Notice stated. A State Bar Council may penalise an advocate for wrongdoing under the Advocates Act, 1961, upon receiving a complaint or in other circumstances.

Date Of Next Hearing

Tiwari stated that the case’s next hearing date is July 13. Tiwari responded, “He keeps threatening but I am not afraid of him,” when asked why he didn’t report Singh despite being threatened numerous times. Singh, according to Tiwari, has been threatening him and his client ever since the lawsuit was filed in court. On Thursday, a hearing for the case was planned. “On Thursday, the matter involving my client was heard, and Kameshwar Singh was there. Even yesterday, he threatened to shoot me and said, “I’ll see you.” He threatened me in front of the judge even during the most recent hearing, which was conducted on April 12. He also cautioned me against continuing with the case. Even the judge, who told him that his rightful place was in jail but who had been released on bail, had heard it, said Tiwari.
