Sitamarhi in Bihar is set to get a major rail upgrade as an Amrit Bharat Train between Sitamarhi and Delhi is expected to start operations soon. The announcement came after Bihar Minister and JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha met with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi.
Amrit Bharat Train to Soon Connect Sitamarhi and Delhi
The request to inaugurate the new train service was made in connection with the upcoming Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the grand Maa Janki Temple at Punouradham, the divine birthplace of Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi, scheduled for August 8. The Railway Minister responded positively and immediately instructed officials to take swift action. He assured that the train service would begin soon.
During the meeting, Sanjay Kumar Jha also presented several key demands regarding railway connectivity and passenger facilities in Madhubani and surrounding Mithila regions.
These included:
- Construction of an overbridge at Railway Gate No. 13 in Madhubani to resolve traffic congestion.
- Survey for a new railway line along the Nepal border: Sitamarhi–Jaynagar–Laukaha–Forbesganj, and another from Jhanjharpur–Supaul–Madhepura via the new Kosi Bridge.
- Granting “Amrit Station” status to Jhanjharpur station.
- Establishment of a coaching complex with two washing pits at Laukaha.
- Setting up a MEMU maintenance shed at Manigachhi.
- Operation of new trains, such as:
- Vande Bharat Express from Saharsa to Jammu Tawi via Jhanjharpur
- Amrit Bharat trains from Laukaha to Lokmanya Tilak Terminal, Jhanjharpur to Kanyakumari/Pune, and Forbesganj to Mysore via Darbhanga
- Intercity Express from Laukaha to Bhagalpur via Saharsa and Munger
Sanjay Kumar Jha extended his gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for positively considering all proposals and directing officials for prompt action.
He was accompanied by Jhanjharpur MP Ramprit Mandal, Siwan MP Vijayalakshmi Devi, and former MLA Ramesh Singh Kushwaha. Jha expressed confidence that these steps would accelerate development in Mithila through enhanced rail connectivity.
