AAP leader Anurag Dhanda isn’t holding back. He’s calling out the Delhi Government, saying sanitation workers don’t feel safe anymore when they’re out doing their jobs. And he’s not just talking. Lately, there’s been a string of attacks and threats against safai karamcharis in different parts of Delhi.
Dhanda isn’t buying the government’s promises
He says fear is growing among sanitation workers, but the government still hasn’t done enough to keep them safe. These are the people who keep Delhi running every single day, and Dhanda feels like the city’s just leaving them to fend for themselves. “Safai karamchari khud ko surakshit mehsoos nahi kar rahe… This is unacceptable,” he said. In his view, the government’s too busy protecting its own image to bother with what’s really happening on the ground.
Reports of Rising Attacks
It’s not just talk, either. Over the past few months, more and more sanitation workers have been dealing with verbal abuse, threats, and even outright attacks—especially on those tough early morning and late-night shifts. Dhanda says the lack of security is wearing people down. He blames officials for not working closely enough with the police and civic departments to make things safer. “If those who keep our streets clean don’t feel protected, it reflects a collapse of governance,” he said.
He wants the government to act now
Here’s what he’s demanding: security patrols in risky areas, special emergency helplines just for sanitation workers, quick and strict action against anyone who threatens them, and proper safety gear and training for those working in dangerous spots.
Dhanda warns that if the government keeps ignoring this, morale will drop and the city’s cleanliness could take a real hit.
Of course, his comments have fired up the political debate. But Dhanda insists this isn’t just about politics—it’s a real safety crisis for thousands of workers. Opposition parties seem to agree, saying the government has its priorities all wrong.
