Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anurag Dhanda has criticised the Haryana government after it moved to challenge a decision allowing a private company to distribute electricity in Gurugram and Nuh.
In a post on X, Dhanda claimed that the Nayab Singh Saini-led government had withdrawn its privatisation decision following the controversy. He alleged that the move could have benefited a private company financially.
Haryana Government Seeks Cancellation of Private Licence: Anurag Dhanda
The controversy centres on the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (HERC) decision to grant Eleven Power Private Limited a 25-year parallel electricity distribution licence for Gurugram and Nuh on October 19. The decision faced opposition from state power employees and government-owned distribution companies.
On October 23, the state government directed HERC to take steps to cancel the licence and prevent the implementation of parallel distribution licences elsewhere in Haryana. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reiterated that the government opposed privatisation of electricity services.
Power Employees End Strike After Government Assurance
The dispute triggered a strike by electricity department employees, disrupting power supply in parts of Haryana. The employees called off their protest after talks with the Chief Minister and Energy Minister Anil Vij, following assurances that the government would oppose privatisation and pursue action against the licence decision.
