Ashokdham Temple Stampede: A tragic accident happened yesterday morning at Bihar’s Ashokdham Temple in Lakhisarai due to a large rush of devotees, which resulted in chaos. At least six deaths were initially reported, but later reports increased the toll to seven. Several others were injured in the incident.

This accident occurred on the third Monday of the auspicious month of Shravan where many devotees were gathered to give water to Lord Shiva.
Collapse of Barricade Adds to the Chaos
As per the statement of Lakhisarai District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar, there was a sudden increase in the crowd because two trains arrived around 6:30-6:45 am. Thereafter, a barricade collapse took place, resulting in the devotees falling on each other.
Electric Pole Falls During the Incident
The officials also confirmed that an electric pole collapsed during this accident. It is believed that a rumor spread about the fall of a live wire among the crowd and hence there was more panic.
Rescue Operations Underway
Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot following the incident. Rescue operations were launched, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the incident as extremely tragic and directed officials to ensure proper and prompt treatment for the injured. The government has also announced ₹4 lakh assistance for the family of each person who died. The incident has once again raised concerns over crowd management and safety arrangements at major religious gatherings, particularly during peak festival days
