Atishi Appointed as First Woman Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly
Atishi's elevation comes in the wake of AAP's electoral setbacks, with key leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bharadwaj losing their respective seats. Despite the losses, the party has vowed to be a strong opposition, with Atishi leading the charge against the newly elected BJP government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Expressing gratitude to AAP and Kejriwal for the trust placed in her, Atishi reaffirmed her commitment to holding the government accountable. "The people of Delhi have entrusted us with the role of opposition, and we will ensure that BJP fulfills all its promises, including the pledge of providing ₹2,500 per month to women," she wrote on X.
With 22 MLAs in the Assembly, AAP aims to raise public concerns vigorously. Atishi's appointment signals the party’s intent to challenge the ruling government and advocate for the rights of Delhiites.
Atishi’s appointment is also seen as a strategic move by AAP to project a strong female leadership against Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Known for her work in education and governance, Atishi is expected to play a key role in shaping the opposition’s stance in the Assembly. Political analysts believe her leadership will be crucial in countering the BJP government’s policies while reinforcing AAP’s commitment to Delhi’s development.
