Atishi to Succeed Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi’s Chief Minister

Atishi met with Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena to stake her claim to form the new government, while Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation as Chief Minister.

Atishi is set to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The date for her swearing-in ceremony has been proposed for September 21, 2024. On Tuesday, Atishi met with Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena to stake her claim to form the new government, while Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation as Chief Minister.

Kejriwal’s Resignation Sent to President

Lieutenant Governor Saxena has forwarded Kejriwal’s resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. In the letter sent to the President, the date of Atishi’s oath-taking ceremony on September 21 has also been proposed.

AAP Legislative Party Did Not Propose a Date

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislative party did not propose a specific date for the swearing-in ceremony of the nominated Chief Minister. Kejriwal, after submitting his resignation, paved the way for Atishi to stake her claim to form the new government in the national capital.

New and Old Ministers to Take Oath

As per protocol, when the Chief Minister resigns, the entire cabinet is dissolved. Therefore, along with Atishi, all members of her cabinet, both new and existing, will take the oath again. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a low-key event, with only a limited number of guests in attendance.

Assembly Session on September 26 and 27

According to government sources, a Delhi Assembly session is likely to be held on September 26 and 27. During this session, Atishi may present a vote of confidence. Additionally, the session will focus on completing legislative processes and discussing key issues related to Delhi.
