Avalanche warning: Disaster Management Department has issued an avalanche warning in four districts of Uttarakhand in the coming 24 hours. It said there was a possibility of avalanche in the districts of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand in areas above 3000 meters of height.

There is a threat of avalanches in Uttarakhand in the next 24 hours. Avalanche can occur in four cities here. The IMD has issued an avalanche alert in Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi districts. Avalanche risk is high in areas above 3000 meters.

SDRF, NDRF on alert

Keeping the avalanche warning in mind, teams of SDRF, NDRF and district administration have been put on alert mode in this regard. In view of the avalanche warning, a helicopter has also been kept on standby, so that relief materials can reach the people easily.

Giving this information, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department Secretary Ranjit Sinha said that SDRF, NDRF and district administration had been told to be alert about the avalanche risk. Along with this, a helicopter has also been kept on standby. He further added that while areas above 3000 meters are at high risk, of avalanches, settlements below that height may also be be hit. He asked everyone to be on alert mode.

Joshimath under threat

As Joshimath in Uttarakhand is already under threat after several buildings in the district developed cracks, avalanche can prove fatal. Many people have been rendered homeless due to landslides in Joshimath. And if an avalanche occurs, it is bound to hit Joshimath hard.
