Ayodhya Ram Mandir: Ayodhya’s Hospitality Surge! Where to Stay as Ram Temple Event Drives Accommodation Costs

With hotel costs soaring, Ayodhya has significant lodging issues as it prepares for the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple's consecration event.

Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Ayodhya Ram Mandir: Preparations are in full gear for Pran Pratishtha (consecration) ceremony of Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, recognised as first one of the seven most important pilgrimage destinations (Mokshdayini Sapt Puris) for Hindus. Accommodations are either completely booked or only available at astronomically high prices due to the large number of people anticipated for the ceremony on January 22.

Stringent Security Measures

Strict security precautions have been implemented by the local government for the notable attendees. The state government issued an order last month mandating the cancellation of all hotel reservations made for the surrounding dates without formal invitations from the temple trust or government passes.

A day before to and on the day of the ceremony, the state government had made it clear that the only individuals allowed entry into Ayodhya are those invited by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Trust, journalists, and government employees who are on duty.

High Demand and Limited Availability

The booking.com notice for Ayodhya’s accommodations started exactly two weeks before to January 22 and stated, 77% of the locations to stay on your dates are unavailable. Accommodation options on the travel platform include hotels (20), apartments (12), complete houses and apartments (12), homestays (7), and guest houses (6). Many lodgings have increased their rates significantly; some have done so by up to 200 times the standard rate.

Local Administration’s Control Over Hotels

A hotelier who wishes to remain anonymous claims that from January 20 to January 23, 2024, a number of hotels around the Temple were “in a way taken over by the local administration.” It basically means that a room can only be assigned to a “invited” person once the management has approved their name. The proprietor of the 18-room hotel, which is located one km from the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and roughly 300 yards from Ram ki Paidi, stated, “The administration does not have a cap on the tariff but it cannot be exaggerated.”
