In a strongly worded statement, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the ongoing debate surrounding India’s possible response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, cautioning against rushing into war and urging for internal unity first. However, his remarks have drawn sharp criticism on social media, with many accusing him of “behaving like a Pakistan agent” and weakening the national sentiment at a critical time.

"War Should Be the Last Resort"

Siddaramaiah emphasized that war must always be a nation’s last option, undertaken only after all other means to defeat the enemy have failed. Referring to the Pahalgam attack, he admitted there were serious lapses in India's intelligence and security systems, and called upon the government to fix these internal flaws before considering external military action.

"The horrific terror attack orchestrated by Pakistan-backed militants has made it painfully clear that grave lapses exist," he stated. "The government's primary duty is to correct these shortcomings and prevent future tragedies."

Support for Diplomatic Measures

The Chief Minister also backed the Centre’s diplomatic moves, including revisiting the Indus Waters Treaty, welcoming strong yet discreet actions against Pakistan. Siddaramaiah stressed that not all retaliatory measures need public display, and assured that the nation stands united behind decisive leadership.

However, while urging stern action against Pakistan, Siddaramaiah simultaneously warned against “mischievous elements” within the country trying to disturb communal harmony. He asserted that internal unity was crucial before confronting external threats.

Facing Backlash

Despite his attempt to strike a balanced tone, Siddaramaiah’s comments were met with brutal trolling online. Critics accused him of giving “moral lectures” at a time when the nation is grieving and seeking decisive action. Several users questioned his patriotism and alleged he was weakening India's position by showing hesitation against Pakistan.

Siddaramaiah Stresses Wisdom Over Emotion

Highlighting the fragile state of Pakistan, Siddaramaiah reminded that India, as a rising global superpower, must act with “wisdom and caution,” leveraging the unprecedented global support it has garnered after the terror attack.

“We must teach Pakistan a lesson so profound that they dare not commit such reckless acts again,” he concluded, urging the government to strike smartly, rather than emotionally.

As political temperatures rise and public anger simmers, Siddaramaiah’s call for patience and internal consolidation may appeal to some — but for many, his words have added to the perception of political leaders being disconnected from the nation’s current mood.
