Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A week after being built in Bengaluru, a bus shelter worth Rs 10 lakh and the steel supporting it were taken. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) was in charge of maintaining the bus shelter, which was located on Cunningham Road.

Mysterious Disappearance of Bengaluru Bus Shelters Raises Concerns

On September 30, a month after the bus shelter disappeared, N Ravi Reddy, an associate vice-president of the business in charge of building BMTC bus shelters in Bengaluru, filed a complaint with the police. The police then opened a theft case. A three-decade-old bus stop at the HRBR Layout vanished over night earlier in March. According to a media report citing locals, the Lions Club donated the bus stop at Kalyan Nagar in 1990. It was taken out over night to make room for a business.

A Pattern of Mystery and Confusion

Officials from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) claimed that Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was responsible for removing the bus shelter. These disappearing bus stops instances are not unusual occurrences in Bengaluru. Doopanahalli bus stop near Horizon School vanished over night in 2015. A 20-year-old bus stop at Rajarajeshwarinagar’s BEML Layout III Stage vanished earlier in 2014.
