Bihar Assembly Election 2025: 5 Key Candidates From NDA and Mahagathbandhan in the Fray in First Phase

Bihar gears up for phase one of polls as NDA and Mahagathbandhan field key leaders in a high-stakes electoral battle shaping the 2025 contest.

Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The start of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 is raising the political temperature of the State. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) have both prepared their best candidates for a political duel that could alter the political landscape of the State.

NDA Candidates

Nityanand Rai (Vaishali)

BJP leader and Union Minister Nityanand Rai is contesting from Vaishali, one of the BJP’s prestige seats. Though he is known for controlling the organisation, he is also good at connecting to the support base at the grassroot level. His campaign has centred on the dynamics of development and stability of law & order.

Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai)

Former Speaker of the Bihar Assembly and BJP representative Vijay Kumar Sinha is part of the BJP’s exercise to consolidate upper-caste and youth votes. His critique has centered on employment and infrastructure as he again fits into the NDA’s wider growth narrative.

Ashok Choudhary (Samastipur)

From the JD(U), Ashok Choudhary remains a trusted partner of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. They are providing a record of governance coupled with educational institutions in an attempt to leverage the JD(U)’s development record in Bihar.

Key Players of Mahagathbandhan

Tejashwi Yadav (Raghopur)

Tejashwi Yadav is the face of RJD and the Leader of Opposition, so he will contest again from Raghopur, as he is relying upon the legacy of his father, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Tejashwi’s campaign revolves around employment, social justice, and eliminating NDA’s misgovernance.

Akhilesh Singh (Arrah)

A Congress leader rising fast, who has already become a significant ally in Mahagathbandhan, Akhilesh Singh is looking to get Congress back on its feet in central Bihar. His campaign highlights youth empowerment and farmer welfare.

Political Pulse of Phase One

The first phase is going to be a trial by fire for engaging rural voters, focused on issues such as unemployment, price rise, and the plight of farmers. Nitish Kumar’s renewed alliance with the BJP and Tejashwi Yadav’s focused and aggressive campaign on the ground should make for an interesting opening phase, one that should set the tone for the rest of the election.

This is the political landscape in which Bihar is going to the polls, and the focus will be on these five candidates, who represent the larger ideological and generational shift taking place in Bihar’s politics. The first phase will represent more than numbers—it will also represent the narratives that may be part of the Bihar story in 2025.
