After the successful launch of the Patna Metro project, the Bihar government has taken a significant step toward urban transport development by completing the metro feasibility survey for four major cities—Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga. The proposed metro routes aim to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and boost economic development in these regions.

Metro Route Plans for Four Cities

The survey suggests metro rail projects with different route lengths for each city:

Gaya: 36 km metro route (longest among the four), connecting Bodhgaya and the airport.

Bhagalpur: 24 km metro route.

Muzaffarpur: 21.25 km metro route.

Darbhanga: 18.8 km metro route (shortest among the proposed projects).

Each city will have two metro corridors, enhancing intra-city mobility and providing better access to key locations.

Survey and Feasibility Study Completed

The Urban Development and Housing Department has received a detailed feasibility report, a comprehensive mobility plan, and an alternative analysis report from the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), the agency responsible for conducting the survey. These reports include inputs from local representatives and residents.

While the initial plan was to keep metro routes within 20 km in each city, public suggestions and feasibility studies led to an extension of route lengths in the final proposal.

Next Steps: Project Implementation

The Bihar government is currently reviewing the survey findings. Once approved, further steps, including detailed project planning, funding allocation, and construction timelines, will be initiated.

Metro Expansion to Transform Bihar’s Urban Transport

With metro projects already underway in Patna (32 km with 24 stations), the expansion to other cities reflects the state’s commitment to modernizing urban infrastructure. The metro systems will provide a faster, safer, and eco-friendly mode of transportation, benefiting residents, businesses, and tourists alike.
