BJP leader Amit Malviya has strongly criticized the Karnataka state budget, calling it an act of appeasement towards the Muslim community. Taking to social media, he stated, "This is not the Karnataka Congress budget but that of the New Muslim League—Muslim appeasement at its peak!" His remarks have sparked political controversy, with the opposition accusing the ruling Congress of prioritizing one community over others.
Key Allocations for Muslim Community in Karnataka Budget
According to Amit Malviya’s statement, several provisions in the Karnataka budget have been exclusively designed for the welfare of the Muslim community.
These include:
Reservation for Muslims in government contracts
₹50,000 assistance for Muslim simple marriages
₹150 crore for infrastructure development of Waqf properties and graveyards
₹50 lakh for Muslim cultural programs
New ITI college to be set up in Muslim-dominated areas
50 percent fee concession for Muslim students under KEA
Residential PU college for Muslim girls in Ullal town
Increase in national and foreign scholarships for Muslim students
Expansion of Bengaluru’s Haj Bhavan with additional buildings
Self-defense training for Muslim girl students
Malviya further questioned the Congress government’s intent by pointing out that Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) have not been given any special provisions in the budget. He alleged that the ruling party is focusing solely on one community while neglecting others who are equally in need of welfare schemes.
Political Reactions and Growing Debate
The BJP has taken a strong stance against the budget, accusing the Congress of dividing society based on religion. Several party leaders have echoed Malviya’s concerns, stating that the government should work for the development of all communities rather than favoring one.
On the other hand, Congress leaders have defended their budget, claiming that the provisions aim to uplift underprivileged sections of society. They argue that such welfare measures are essential for inclusive growth and that allegations of appeasement are politically motivated.
The controversy surrounding the Karnataka budget is expected to intensify, with BJP planning to launch protests against what they call "discriminatory policies" of the Congress government. As political debates heat up, it remains to be seen how the ruling party addresses these criticisms while justifying its budgetary allocations.
