Chhattisgarh: Minor among 3 arrested for nurse’s gangrape at Chhattisgarh health centre

Chhattisgarh: Three men including a 17-year old, were arrested for tying up a nurse and gang-raping her at a health centre in Chhattisgarh. They gagged her before tying her up and assaulting her. One of the accused is a minor, police said. The fourth accused is on the run.

Assault recorded

The nurse alleged that the four accused also recorded the assault and threatened her with murder if she informed the police.

According to Jhagrakhand Police, the victim is a resident of Paradol village, which comes under Manendragarh Tehsil in Korea district.

Jhagrakhand Station Officer Deepesh Saini told mediapersons that the incident took place on October 21 at the health centre which was closed early in the afternoon owing to the Diwali festival.

Nurse was alone

Police said the accused spotted the victim working alone at the health centre around 3 pm on Friday. They entered the centre, tied her up, gagged her and then took turns to rape her.

The nurse later informed her parents and registered a complaint with the police.

“The woman has registered a complaint. Three of the accused have been arrested,” said senior police officer Nimesh Baraiya.

Protests staged

The incident drew sharp condemnation. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders staged protests against the Bhupesh Bhagel-led Chhattisgarh government.

On the BJP’s protests, Manendragarh’s Congress MLA Vinay Jaiswal said, “The BJP is doing politics. Strict action has already been taken against the accused.”

A group of health workers has raised concerns about working in remote areas and has urged the Chhattisgarh government to provide them with security.

“We want protection. If strict action is not taken against the accused, we will not work,” said Pratima Singh, Chief Health Officer at a health centre in the district.
