However, the East Coast Railway authorities were swift to offer reassurances. They confirmed that the unexpected incident had led to neither injuries nor casualties. The cause? The brake pads had ignited due to friction, likely a result of the brakes not fully releasing. Thankfully, the flames were contained to the brake pads, averting any potential damage.

Quick Action Ensures Safety: The Train's Journey Continues

The issue came to light when the train pulled into the Khariar Road station on Thursday evening. As soon as smoke was detected in the B3 coach, immediate action was taken. The problem was resolved within an hour, and the train was back on track, departing the station at 11 pm.

Many passengers, understandably startled by the sight of smoke, rushed out of the train. The ensuing panic, however, was quickly calmed as the railway authorities dealt with the situation promptly and efficiently.

A Jarring Reminder of Recent Tragedy: Odisha Still Healing

This incident comes shortly after Odisha experienced one of its most tragic train disasters. The catastrophic collision in Balasore district, involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train, claimed a heartbreaking 288 lives and left over 1,100 people injured.

The fire aboard the Durg Puri Express has inevitably triggered painful memories of this recent catastrophe. However, this time around, thanks to the swift action by the railway authorities, a potential crisis was nipped in the bud, ensuring the safety of all passengers on board.

To conclude, while the incident has certainly raised concerns about railway safety, it also highlights the importance of quick and decisive action in mitigating potential crises. The swift response of the East Coast Railway authorities in this situation undoubtedly prevented what could have been another grim day for Odisha's rail travel.
