Bhagwant Mann: On September 10, 2025, in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab, along with his ministers and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, has been giving help to areas of the state that have been hit by flooding. It is said by the government that coordinated relief efforts have already helped millions of people in the affected districts.
Announcements of help for families and farmers
In one of the most important statements about compensation, CM Mann said that farmers whose crops were destroyed by the floods would get ₹20,000 per acre. Four lakh rupees will be given to each family of those who died. Under the “Jisda Khet, Usdi Ret” policy, farmers can also take away and sell the sand that has been dumped on their fields until November 15. This gives them another way to make money.
To help farmers in flood-affected areas with their finances, the Punjab government has also said that they will not have to pay back their loans for six months.
Pay is given away by ministers and MLAs
As a kind act, CM Mann, his cabinet officials, and all AAP MLAs have promised to give one month’s pay to the relief fund. Politicians and regular people alike have praised the move, which shows how seriously the government is taking the problem.
Ashok Mittal, an AAP MP, has given ₹20 lakh to the CM Relief Fund and promised that families of the victims will be able to get jobs at Lovely Professional University (LPU), which will help with recovery even more.
Massive deployment of administrative staff
CM Mann has put more than 1,700 gazetted officers in charge of overseeing the recovery work in 23 districts to make sure that every family gets help. A lot of resources have been sent out because it has touched almost 1,698 villages and 3.8 lakh people.
The Army and 17 NDRF teams have been called to help with rescue efforts. On a war footing, medical camps, clean-up drives, veterinary care, and food sharing are being carried out. Ministers are going to towns that were hit by floods to make sure that damage is being fixed and that people are getting help.
Problems with the Central Relief Package
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a ₹1,600 crore package for Punjab. However, Harpal Singh Cheema, the state’s finance minister, called it a “cruel joke” and said that the state had already suffered losses worth several thousand crores. CM Mann has asked the Centre to pay off ₹60,000 crore in debts and raise the amount of aid given per acre to ₹50,000.
But Governor Gulab Chand Kataria made it clear that the ₹1,600 crore is just the start and that more money will come in.
