CM Eknath Shinde to adopt children orphaned

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will adopt children who lost both their parents in the recent landslide at Irshalwadi village in the state’s Raigad district. Shiv Sena said, ‘Many children have lost both their parents in the Irshalwadi landslide. CM Eknath Shinde has announced to adopt these children and become their guardian. The CM has announced that these orphans in the age group of 2 years to 14 years will be looked after by the Shrikant Shinde Foundation.’

According to news agency ANI, Mangesh Chiwte, OSD to CM Eknath Shinde said, “All the expenditure on education and other things will be done through the Shrikant Shinde Foundation run by the son of CM Eknath Shinde.” An FD (fixed deposit) will be made for the education of each child. Meanwhile, the death toll in the Irshalwadi landslide incident has reached 25.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Saturday continued its search and rescue operations in landslide-hit Irshalwadi in Raigad. A team of nDRF reached the spot this morning and more teams are expected to join the search operation later today. A landslide occurred at around 11 pm on Wednesday night in a tribal village located on a hill slope in Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district, about 80 km from Mumbai.
