Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda criticised the BJP-led Delhi government following the collapse of a residential building in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area, questioning the state of building safety and civic infrastructure in the national capital.
Reacting to the incident, Dhanda said Delhi’s situation had deteriorated under the BJP government and alleged that building collapses were taking place repeatedly. He also criticised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the government’s response to such incidents.
Anurag Dhanda Questions Delhi Government Over Building Safety
Dhanda’s remarks came after a multi-storey residential building collapsed in New Seemapuri on Wednesday afternoon. The incident triggered a major rescue operation involving the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force and civic authorities.
The collapse occurred at around 3:30 pm, with emergency teams rushing to the area after reports that people were trapped under the debris. Several residents and local volunteers also joined the rescue efforts as authorities worked to clear the rubble.
Seemapuri Building Collapse Leaves People Dead and Injured
The incident resulted in multiple casualties. According to the latest reports, the death toll rose as additional bodies were recovered from the debris, while several injured people were taken to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in Tahirpur. Rescue teams continued searching the site for people who may still be trapped.
Among those killed were a 21-year-old pregnant woman and two children, according to reports. The tragedy has raised renewed concerns about the safety of ageing and vulnerable structures in densely populated parts of Delhi.
Rescue Operation Continues in Seemapuri
Multiple agencies, including the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, MCD and other civic authorities, were involved in the rescue and debris-clearing operation. Officials said the operation was continuing as teams searched the affected structure and surrounding area.
Officials and local residents have also discussed possible structural damage following recent earthquake tremors, with reports that cracks had appeared in the building. The exact cause of the collapse, however, remains subject to investigation.
Dhanda used the incident to raise questions about the Delhi government’s approach to building safety and civic administration. His comments add to the political debate surrounding the condition of buildings and preparedness for such emergencies in the capital.
The Seemapuri collapse has once again brought attention to structural safety, enforcement of building norms and the need for timely action concerning vulnerable buildings in densely populated areas of Delhi.
