CM Rekha Gupta said the initiative aims to honor traditions while strengthening the government’s commitment to pollution control and sustainable celebrations. She assured that only those Green Firecrackers that are manufactured by authorized entities and certified by competent departments after due testing will be allowed.

“The Delhi government is fully committed to environmental safety and pollution control. However, we also recognize the cultural and emotional significance of Diwali for the people of Delhi,” CM Rekha Gupta said. “Our proposal to the Hon’ble Supreme Court seeks to ensure that the festival is celebrated responsibly, without compromising on environmental concerns.”

She added that the government has directed the concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive action

She added that the government has directed the concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive action plan to monitor the use of Green Firecrackers, including strict verification of manufacturing licenses, quality certifications, and sale permissions.

“The priority is to ensure that only certified, less-polluting firecrackers are available in the market. Any violation of norms will invite strict action,” she emphasized.

Officials said that if approved, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and law enforcement agencies will jointly oversee the distribution and use of such firecrackers to ensure full compliance with the Supreme Court’s directions and environmental regulations.

The move comes as Delhi continues to battle severe post-Diwali pollution levels each year, prompting the government to seek a middle path that safeguards both tradition and public health.
