Delhi has officially rolled out the pilot operation of Bharat Taxi, a government-backed cab service aimed at creating a fair, transparent, and driver-friendly mobility ecosystem in the city. The service has been launched with car, auto, and bike options, providing commuters with multiple choices for affordable transportation.
Delhi Launches Pilot Operation of Government-Backed ‘Bharat Taxi’ Service
According to officials, the initiative has received an overwhelming early response, with over 51,000 drivers already registered on the Bharat Taxi application. This large onboarding in the pilot phase highlights the strong trust among drivers, largely due to the platform’s zero-commission model, which ensures that drivers keep 100% of their earnings. Additionally, the cooperative structure allows profits to be shared among the drivers themselves, making it a community-led model rather than a corporate profit-driven one.
The service will be operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited
The service will be operated by Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, which was registered on June 6, 2025, under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies framework. The cooperative vision aims to empower drivers, eliminate exploitative commission structures, and encourage a more sustainable livelihood model across the transport sector.
Officials added that the pilot phase will help identify operational improvements, app performance enhancements, and commuter experience upgrades before a full-scale rollout.
Once fully launched, Bharat Taxi is expected to emerge as a strong alternative to private cab aggregators, offering affordable rides to passengers and fair earnings to drivers—setting a new benchmark for mobility services in India.
