Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has denied permission to convert an MCD school into a temporary jail. The Delhi Police had sought permission to convert the Municipal Corporation (MCD) school at Kanjhwala into a temporary jail in view of the wrestlers’ ‘Mahila Maha Panchayat’. In a statement, the mayor said ‘no permission will be granted’ to convert the primary school into a temporary jail.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi’s big blow to Delhi Police
The Delhi Mayor has denied permission to create a temporary jail in MC Primary Girls School, Kanjhwala Chows on May 28, Sunday.
“It has been brought to my notice that a letter has been sent by the Delhi Police to the MCD Deputy Commissioner (North) on 27.05.2023 asking to create a temporary jail in MC Primary Girls School, Kanjhawala Chowk, Old Bhawan on 28.05.2023,” Oberoi said in an order issued on Sunday.
It is hereby directed that “no permission will be granted”, she said in the order.
Mahila Samman Maha Panchayat
The move comes on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building. The police had issued a traffic advisory ahead of the inauguration.
Meanwhile, protesting wrestlers were seen marching towards the new Parliament building today as they intensified their protest against WFI cheif Brij Bhushan.
The wrestlers along with Khap Panchayats of various states and farmers called for a ‘Mahila Samman Maha Panchayat near the parliament building on Sunday.
