Street crimes are common against women in every part of the country including national capital Delhi. In the realm of darkness, the miscreants find their target and attack on them without leaving any clue. While these criminals get even more notorious as they don't get caught, locals tend to become more fearful. After the sun sets, people, especially women, feel scared to go through paths with dark spots. Taking cognizance into the matter, MCD has started a campaign to make its area dark spot free with the aim of eliminating this feeling of fear among the people and the incidents of street crime or activities related to it.
MCD seeks suggestions from locals
MCD has decided to get rid of these spots with no lightening after complains from locals. The civic body has also issued a notice and asked people to send in their suggestions via phone, WhatsApp, and email based on problems faced by them.
In the year 2022, in a meeting of Delhi Police, it was revealed that complaint from 900 dark spots was received. Miscreants sneak in corners of dark spots and perform these criminal activities. In view of this, the MCD has directed the agency working under it to control the situation and take necessary actions.
Public campaign launched
As per the MCD official said, the previous incharge had converted the traditional lights into LED lights on their own. Therefore, the duty of keeping these lights in order and installing lights at necessary places is with these agencies. Based on the complaints and suggestions of the people, the companies were instructed to eliminate these dark spots. Now, a citizen's campaign has been launched for this. Citizens can register their complaints through toll free number, mobile number, WhatsApp and e-mail.
