The Vadodara-Mumbai section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is expected to become operational by August 31, 2026, significantly improving road connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and Mumbai. The timeline was shared by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a review meeting of the project.
DON'T MISS
Delhi Mumbai Expressway Vadodara
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is among India’s largest highway infrastructure projects. Spanning around 1,350–1,400 kilometres, the eight-lane greenfield expressway connects Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, aiming to provide faster, safer, and more efficient road travel.
Major boost for Madhya Pradesh connectivity
Madhya Pradesh has nearly 244 kilometres of the expressway passing through the districts of Mandsaur, Ratlam, and Jhabua. While several stretches of the expressway are already operational, the absence of the Vadodara-Mumbai link has prevented seamless high-speed connectivity to Mumbai.
With around 157 kilometres of the Maharashtra corridor expected to open by the end of August, vehicles travelling from Madhya Pradesh will be able to access Mumbai through a faster and more direct route, reducing travel time and improving logistics.
The project is expected to provide a major boost to industries, businesses, and the logistics sector in the Malwa region. Lower transportation costs and quicker movement of goods will benefit manufacturers, traders, and agricultural producers across the state.
The improved connectivity will also facilitate faster transportation of cargo to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) near Mumbai, one of India’s busiest ports. Trucks and commercial vehicles are expected to consume less fuel and complete journeys in shorter durations compared to existing highway routes, resulting in significant cost savings for businesses.
