Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Heavy Rain, Waterlogged Roads, Red Alert, What’s In Store On Independence Day ? Check

Delhi-NCR is on high alert after heavy rains lashed the region this morning, causing severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions. With a red alert in place, the IMD has warned of continued rainfall on Independence Day.

Delhi NCR Weather Update: Thursday morning in Delhi-NCR was marked by torrential rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for the geographic area. The rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging across many areas of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad.

Traffic Chaos and Major Expressways

Arterial roads and low-lying areas are inundated and stuck in heavy traffic during morning rush hour. Commuters reported delays on Ring Road, ITO, Dhaula Kuan, and Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway, with vehicles barely moving. Public transport is also seeing serious delays.

IMD issued a Red Alert today

The IMD red alert states very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning was expected on Thursday. Residents are advised to travel only if essential, have emergency supplies stocked up, and check official meteorological and weather bulletins.

How Will the Weather Be on Independence Day?

With just a day to go before Independence Day, the big question is whether the rain will put an end to the celebrations, which include parades, etc. According to IMD forecasts, there might be moderate to heavy rain on August 15, 2023, which could disrupt outdoor events, amicable hoisting ceremonies, and public activities, as rain is also expected to last through the long weekend (until August 17).

This rainy phase is expected to last until this long weekend, with rainy conditions likely to continue until August 17. Event organizers are suggesting locals prepare contingency plans to avoid cancellations or changes in plans at the last minute.

In addition to Delhi-NCR being put on heavy rain alert, IMD has also issued an orange alert for heavy rain and landslides in areas of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
