Delhi News: Fog, Pollution, Chill Trouble Mounts for Delhiites, Yellow Alert Persists — What Lies Ahead

Delhi grapples with a combination of fog, pollution, and low temperatures under a yellow alert, posing ongoing challenges for commuters, families, and health officials alike.

Delhi News: Delhi continues to experience adverse weather due to the effects of heavy fog, high pollution, and low temperatures; for residents, health issues and discomfort have been an ongoing issue in these poor weather conditions. The Delhi government has issued a yellow alert for these weather conditions, encouraging residents to take precautions due to the combination of low visibility and high air pollution impacting their day-to-day life.

Fog and Chill Morning Commutes

Delhi News: The morning of each Garba month is characterised by low visibility for cars and motorcycles on most major highways and thoroughfares in the City of Delhi. Morning commuters have reported a significant slowdown in their commutes as well as delays on major commuting routes leading to the central area of Delhi. The weather since mid-November has produced a significant amount of cold weather and has kept Delhi’s minimum temperature levels down, resulting in a number of hazards for commuters as well as creating heightened risk for those in vulnerable circumstances.

Air Quality Remains High

Although rainfall patterns have provided temporary relief, the air quality within Delhi is listed as “moderate-to-poor,” with the particulate matter concentration (PM2.5, PM10) being above the recommended safety threshold in several areas of Delhi. Health care providers warn that long-term exposure to high levels of air pollution can cause an exacerbation of respiratory problems, particularly for children, senior citizens, and patients with pre-existing respiratory disorders.

Yellow Alert and Health Notice

Weather experts have provided a yellow weather alert for the possibility of dense fog during the early morning hours. In addition, transportation officials have recommended all motorists to utilise their fog lights and maintain safe driving distances behind vehicles in front of them.
