Delhi Police Traffic Advisory: As Republic Day 2026 gets closer, the Delhi Police Traffic Department has warned commuters to plan their trips ahead of time because key city routes are already being used for parade practices. More security steps and road closures are likely to slow down traffic, especially during rush hours.

Where Practices Are Going On

Delhi Police Traffic Advisory: At Rajpath, India Gate, and nearby places like Connaught Place, Janpath, and Patel Chowk, people are practising for the Republic Day parade. Some or all of the roads will have to be closed during practice times, which will probably affect people driving by and people taking public transport.

Important road closures and times

To keep people safe and keep traffic as low as possible, the Delhi Police have stated the following major detours:

  • Some days, roads in the Rajpath area may be closed from early morning to noon.
  • The sections of Janpath and Janakpuri Road will be closed for a short time during practice times.
  • Barakhamba Road and Ashoka Road commuters can expect to see more cops and take different routes.
  • Traffic on metro feeder roads near the Central Secretariat is expected to be slowed down during practice runs.
  • Drivers are told to pay attention to the road signs, do what the cops say, and take alternative routes if they can to avoid delays.

Changes to public transport

A few bus routes will be briefly changed to go around areas where rehearsals are happening. People who take Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) or cluster buses may be using new routes, so they should check the most up-to-date route details before getting on.

What to Do for Commuters

Traffic cops say to plan trips outside of busy practice times, take public transport and give yourself extra time for travel. Ride-hailing services may also have trouble getting to practice areas on time.

Measures for Safety and Law Enforcement

Delhi Police will put more officers at important intersections to help drivers and keep traffic under control. Enforcement teams will make sure that no illegal cars get into restricted areas while the rehearsals are going on.
