Delhi Pollution: After several weeks of intense air pollution, some areas in Delhi are experiencing a slight improvement in air quality. The air quality index in various localities has been downgraded from very poor to moderate, providing some respite to the inhabitants, as per the latest reports. Nevertheless, the police department is still cautioning people against the dense fog that is expected to lower the visibility and disrupt traffic.
Slight Improvement in AQI Across the Capital
The Indian capital has been suffering from extremely polluted air for several weeks, which has adversely affected people’s lives, health, and transport. Recent surveillance of pollution levels has revealed a decrease in pollutant concentration; thus, the air quality index has been able to qualify for the “moderate” category in some neighbourhoods.
GRAP 4 Restrictions Eased
Due to improved air quality, the government has relaxed a few of the emergency measures under the Graded Response Action Plan. Among these are the loosening of limitations related to construction, industrial activities, and some vehicular regulations. The police say that these relaxations are only for a short period and are based on the continuous checking of pollution levels.
Fog Remains a Major Concern
Without a doubt, the dense fog is still a problem that impacts the early mornings and late evenings, although the AQI has slightly improved. Road visibility is less than usual; thus, traffic accidents may occur.
