Delhi rain: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday addressed the flood-like situation in the national capital, assuring officials are keeping a close vigil. He said that 41,000 people living on the Yamuna floodplains will be evacuated if the water level touched 206 meters. The level crossed the warning level of 204.63 meters at 1 pm on Monday. The Delhi chief minister also admitted that the systems were “not designed to take such unprecedented rain” due to which major roads were submerged.
‘This is not the time to point fingers’
Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday briefed the ongoing gruesome situation caused by incessant rainfalls in the city. Assuring precautionary measures to Delhiites, he said that this is not the time to point fingers at each other. “The government of all affected states need to work together to provide relief to the public,” he said.
“We are ready to handle the situation. We are monitoring it and keeping in touch with experts and officials,” he added.

Record-breaking rains in the national capital have brought life to a standstill, disrupting everyday tasks. The city received 153 mm of rain on July 8-9. A flood-like situation was also suspected after a dam in Haryana released more than one lakh cusecs of water into the Yamuna. However, the chief minister has assured that a flood-like situation was unlikely in Delhi.
“As per CWC, Yamuna river is flowing at 203.58 metres in Delhi. It is expected to reach 205.5 metres tomorrow morning. Also, according to weather predictions, the water level in Yamuna is not expected to rise too high. If Yamuna crosses the 206 metre mark, then we will start evacuation along the banks of the river,” he detailed.
A Delhi Disaster Management Authority official has warned the Yamuna level is anticipated to rise to 205.5 metres between 10 am and 12 noon on Tuesday.
