The tragic Dwarka road accident that claimed the life of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra has sparked public outrage across Delhi. Now, the father of the minor accused of driving the SUV has spoken out, expressing deep regret and calling the incident a “grave mistake.”
What Happened on February 3
On February 3, 2026, a Scorpio SUV allegedly driven by a minor collided head-on with Sahil’s motorcycle near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka. The impact was severe. Sahil died on the spot due to critical injuries, including a fractured skull and multiple broken ribs.
DON'T MISS
The SUV also rammed into a parked cab. A taxi driver standing nearby suffered injuries.
Sahil had recently received an acceptance letter from the University of Manchester for higher studies abroad. The letter reportedly arrived after his death, adding to the family’s grief.
Father’s Public Apology
Speaking to media outlets including NDTV, the teen’s father said he was “very ashamed” and “very, very sorry.” He described the crash as his son’s “nadani” (naivety) and admitted, “This is my son’s mistake, I apologise.”
He claimed he was in Gorakhpur for work at the time of the accident. According to him, he instructed his son over the phone to help the injured. He also stated that his household rules are strict, but were not enforced in his absence.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Police detained the minor and presented him before the Juvenile Justice Board. He was sent to an observation home and later granted interim bail on February 10 due to Class 10 board exams.
Authorities seized three vehicles and collected CCTV footage. Reports also revealed 13 previous challans linked to the SUV, including nine for overspeeding. The father said those violations were related to hired drivers in his commercial fleet.
Sahil’s mother has appealed for justice. She highlighted her son’s academic achievements and future plans.
The case has reignited debate over minors driving high-powered vehicles without licenses. For now, one family mourns a lost future, while another faces legal and social consequences.
