Delhi experienced another chilly morning on Wednesday as dense fog enveloped the national capital and its neighboring states, leading to disruptions in both road and air travel. ANI reported that the minimum temperature in Delhi dipped to 4 degrees Celsius.
Train Delays and Cancellations
The impact of reduced visibility due to the fog was evident in several trains running late or being canceled in Delhi. Commuters at the New Delhi Railway Station faced delays, with one passenger expressing to ANI, 'My train, Kerala Express, is running five hours behind the scheduled time.
Flight Operations Hit at Delhi Airport
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport faced delays in flight operations, affecting around 120 flights, including both domestic and international arrivals and departures. The dense fog contributed to the disruptions.
IMD Alerts and Weather Forecast
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for very dense fog and coldwave conditions in Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, Punjab and Haryana received a red alert for similar conditions on Wednesday and an orange alert on Thursday. The advisory highlighted potential disruptions in commutation due to adverse weather conditions.
Previous Flight Disruptions and Weather Conditions
On Tuesday, approximately 30 flights departing from Delhi's IGI airport were delayed, and 17 were canceled due to adverse weather conditions. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Coldwave in Rajasthan
Parts of Rajasthan experienced coldwave conditions with dense fog. In the last 24 hours, the Jaipur weather center recorded minimum temperatures of 2.9 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur and Karauli and 3 degrees Celsius in Sangriya. Sriganganagar recorded a low of 4.3 degrees Celsius, indicating coldwave conditions.
